Alkos invests to consolidate external growth

With the acquisition in April 2008 of Financière Beauté and the holding’s two main subsidiaries, Intercosmétiques and Sagal, France-based Alkos Cosmétiques has tripled its size. In the wake of this important external growth, Gérard Gieux, the group’s manager, and its partners intend to consolidate the company’s development on the make-up and skincare segments.

At the end of 2007, Alkos Cosmétiques, the only French manufacturer of make-up pencils, achieved a turnover of EUR 11 million. The acquisition, in April 2008, of Sagal and Intercosmétiques, which were hold by Financière Beauté, allowed the group to triple this figure. The company’s managers intend to carry on the group’s development and are making big investments to consolidate its recent growth.

At the date of its acquisition, Sagal, a company specialising in the production of high-end perfumed soaps, had a turnover of EUR 3 million. Intercosmétiques, a “full-service” supplier, which specialised in the development and production of make-up and skincare products, had an annual turnover of EUR 20 million… After the integration period, the Alkos group expects the gathering of three entities to produce full effects by the end of the year.

As a first step, we decided to focus our investments on Intercosmétiques, by merely doubling the size of the manufacturing facility in Angers within the next months, with the aim to improve the automation, to develop airless products and, as far as lipsticks and lip-gloss are concerned, to develop hot moulding techniques,” explains Gérard Gieux [1], the group’s CEO. “It’s an important industrial effort, along with important sales and marketing investments, in particular through new recruitments in the sales team… keeping foreign markets in mind,” details Gérard Péverelli, General Manager.
